Why I am passionate in helping people lose weight. Here is my story!

During My Obesity days, I exercised like there was no tomorrow. The slopes of Mt Kenya East provided a perfect opportunity- cool, serene environment perfect for a morning run. I did sweat myself out trying to lose weight. Of course my fatal mistake was doing a heavy morning breakfast after workout.Morning run+ High carb morning Breakfast= Zero weight loss I noted.

It took me a while before I realized one cannot out-run a poor diet. I did rigorous exercises then but I achieved minimal weight loss. This was not sustainable. In fact I injured myself a lot while exercising because of being overweight.

Bloating, acid reflux and at one point admitted for Gastritis-first ever hospital admission in my life. You could not miss antacids in my car. Eno and Esos were part of my daily meals- I had messed up my gut big time.

Back to exercise and weight loss. Many of the champions who come ask this fundamental ❓ Do exercise aid in weight loss?

People are hitting Gym or morning run daily. In fact studies show Physical exercise has increased tremendously over the years but still cases of obesity, hypertension and type 2 diabetes is on the rise.

So what's the problem?

CERTAINLY, EXERCISE HAS great health benefits. The early Greek physician Hippocrates, considered the father of medicine said ,“If we could give every

individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.” But with the sprouting of Gyms and work out places, Obesity is increasing relentlessly, even as

we sweat to the oldies. This is the irony though- Dutch and Italians, with their low exercise rates, experienced less than one-third the obesity of those iron-pumping Americans. But here’s the dismal truth: whether physical activity increases or decreases, it has virtually no relationship to the prevalence of obesity.

Studies have shown that there is no association between activity and obesity. The key point here is that total energy expenditure is not the same as exercise. In fact the overwhelming majority of total energy expenditure is not exercise but the basal metabolic rate- energy required for breathing, heart pumping, maintaining body temperature & organ function. Exercise is still healthy and important—It has many

benefits, but weight loss is not among them.

The fact that exercise always

produces less weight loss than expected has been well documented in medical research.Studies lasting more than twenty-five weeks found that the actual weight loss was only 30 percent of what was expected. Caloric intake increases in response to exercise, we just eat more

following a vigorous workout- chaposx2.

In summary:

1.95% of weight loss is about getting the right diet

2.You cannot make up for dietary indiscretions by

increasing exercise.

3.You can’t outrun a poor diet- more exercise is not always better, exercise represents a stress on the body. Small amounts are beneficial, but excessive amounts are detrimental.

Exercise is simply not all that effective in the treatment of obesity—and the implications are enormous.

  • You cannot out medicate a bad diet
  • You cannot outsauna a bad diet.
  • If we want to reduce obesity, we need to focus on what makes us obese that is Diet - refined sugar/Carbohydrates is the real enemy.

    Analogy-

We are writing a final examination called Obesity101.Diet accounts for 95 percent of the grade and exercise for only 5 percent. Yet we spend 50 percent of our time and energy studying exercise. It is no wonder that our current grade is F—for Fat
