My Story: I Reversed My Asthma & Allergies

Nights in Meru were the worst. The cold seemed to wake the whole town, and it woke me with it. I sneezed so much that Kutto laughed, “You sneeze like a goat!”

I Reversed My Asthma & Allergies

The Shamba That Raised Me

I grew up where the earth still remembers its elders. Our homestead sat in the Nandi shamba, a place where mornings arrived slow and sure, and the kitchen smoke braided itself into the sunrise. My grandparents ran the farm like a living recipe: nduma and cassava in the ground, pumpkins trailing in the sun, goats and chickens wandering the yard, and a cow that gave the kind of milk you could feel in your bones. Food was simple, whole, and honest—nyama, stews simmered over wood fire, and greens picked minutes before they hit the pot.

There were no rushed breakfasts or plastic-wrapped snacks. Children climbed trees, fetched water, and ran until their lungs ached for the joy of it. I remember nights with clean, deep sleep, mornings that woke me eager and strong. When we were ill, answers were practical: rest, bone broth, a poultice, time. I never saw chronic medication on a shelf. Allergies, asthma, obesity—those words belonged to other lives. My grandparents moved through days with steady energy and few complaints, and that felt, simply, normal.

In that rhythm I learned the quiet laws of the body: food heals, movement matters, and seasons regulate life. Those lessons lived inside me like a warm ember. They felt like truth.

The City, the Job, and the Awakening

For ten years I made every excuse for my declining health. I became a sales rep for a multinational drug company and spent more than a decade marketing the very medications that lined my home cabinet—antihistamines, nasal sprays, inhalers. The irony was sharp. Those drugs gave me moments of relief, but never a cure. Each calm seemed to demand a higher dose later. I worked in medicine, yet I couldn't heal myself. University and city life pulled me away from the shamba into offices, traffic, and convenience. Chapati and beans became quick meals; sodas and fried snacks filled long workdays. Small choices stacked into a new normal, and I learned to accept headaches, sniffles, and exhaustion as part of being an adult.

Nights in Meru were the worst. The cold seemed to wake the whole town, and it woke me with it. I sneezed so much that Kutto laughed, “You sneeze like a goat!” My handkerchiefs formed a ragged army across the house; one would be soaked, so I’d swap to the next and keep going until the first had dried enough to reuse. Morning and evening sneezing fits left me raw and exhausted. Flus visited me month after month, and fortnightly lip blisters became a painful, embarrassing routine—especially in my job, when meetings and client conversations mattered. Acid reflux gnawed at me through the night. Migraines would descend and leave me barely able to stand. Sleep was fractured—waking often, lungs tight, chest heavy. I had top medical cover and access to consultants, yet every solution felt like a bandage on a deeper wound.

Around the COVID year a thread on X pointed toward ketogenic and carnivore diets. Skeptical but desperate, I finally said, “enough.” I embraced an ancestral, ketogenic lifestyle: meat-heavy, very low in processed carbs, no added sugars, plus intermittent fasting and simple ancestral movement. Within weeks the wheezing softened. Within two months the change was undeniable: the sneezing eased, the flus waned, the fortnightly lip blisters that used to embarrass me during meetings lessened, migraines receded, and tests came back normal. I lost around 10 kg—down from 78 kg to 68–70 kg—and stopped needing inhalers and antihistamines.

I see clients stuck in that same frustrating cycle. From experience, once you truly decide to change, it usually only takes two to three weeks of focused effort to begin seeing shifts. The secret isn’t magic—it’s alignment. Willpower and discipline become easier when you ride with your hormones rather than fighting them. Once you get over that initial hump, cravings fade, hunger drops, and energy skyrockets.

Today I comfortably run 10 km at least once a week. I barely wear a jacket on cold mornings—not to brag, but because it’s proof of change. Flus, common colds, and frequent headaches are a thing of the past. Sleeping has become something I look forward to. Quality of life has improved in ways that money and medical cover never bought.

That recovery grew into Keto Diet Champions & Wellness Centre: a practical, culturally rooted pathway back to health through ancestral, ketogenic principles. Vibrant health is closer than you think. No more overthinking. Just decide. Your future self will thank you.
