THE FARMACY: ANCESTRAL-KETO ORGANIC SHOP AT WAGON WHEEL HOTEL
This is the deeper thesis I’ve come to understand through years of researching nutrition biochemistry, gut microbiology, and metabolic health: food is not merely calories and cofactors. It is biological information.

The Farmacy at Wagon Wheel: Reclaiming the Ground Where Our Food Was Stolen

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” — Hippocrates
I know what the scholars say. They tell me Hippocrates never actually wrote those words. They’ve combed the entire Hippocratic Corpus and found nothing. They call it a misquote. A modern paraphrase retrofitted onto an ancient name.
But here’s what I know after more than a decade in pharmaceutical sales, and now over a decade in wellness coaching: what matters is not whether he said it, but whether he lived it.
And Hippocrates lived it.
His texts are filled with hundreds of dietary prescriptions—barley gruels calibrated to fevers, honeys and vinegars dosed like pharmaceuticals, wines and herbs deployed with clinical precision. For the father of Western medicine, food was not a metaphor for medicine. It was the practice of it.
So I’m keeping the quote.
Not because it’s historically accurate. But because it’s biologically true. And because it’s the perfect banner for what we’re building here in Eldoret—at a site loaded with history, irony, and redemption.
Welcome to The Farmacy(Ancestral-Keto Organic Shop) at Wagon Wheel—where your kitchen becomes your clinic, and your ancestors become your doctors.

Why Wagon Wheel? Because This Is Where Our Food Was Stolen
There is a reason I chose Wagon Wheel Hotel for The Farmacy. It is not accidental. It is not merely convenient. It is prophetic.
Wagon Wheel was built in 1926 on a three-acre parcel as a recreation hub for the South African Boers who settled the Uasin Gishu Plateau. These were Afrikaner families—over 200 to 300 people in the 1908 influx alone—who fled British rule after the Anglo-Boer War and trekked to the Kenyan highlands in search of land resembling the velds they had left. nation
They brought prefabricated houses, wagons, and ploughs. They in-spanned oxen to simple ploughs and turned the first furrows. They cultivated wheat, maize, and various vegetables—activities that would eventually transform the plateau into a key agricultural zone. nation
This is where large-scale wheat and maize farming commenced in Eldoret. nation
This is where our ancestors were introduced to the ox-drawn plough—replacing their hand hoes and shifting cultivation with sedentary, soil-exhausting monoculture. oldafricamagazine
This is where the Nandi and other indigenous peoples were displaced from their land and conscripted as laborers on settler farms—often paid in sacks of maize, which created a strong and healthy labor force for the colonizers but a metabolically confused population for us. theelephant
This is where culinary imperialism took root: the violent alteration of our foodways, our identity, and our health. theelephant

The Colonial Food System: A Metabolic Trap
Before the Boers arrived, our ancestors ate:
After the Boers arrived, we were taught to eat:
The result? A population that traded metabolic flexibility for metabolic disease.
This is not coincidence. This is colonialism’s metabolic legacy.
*
The Irony—and the Redemption
Here is the irony: Wagon Wheel was built as a leisure symbol for the Boers—a place where they could gather, drink, and celebrate their conquest of the land. The British settlers had the New Lincoln Hotel; the Boers had Wagon Wheel. nation
But today, Wagon Wheel stands as something else entirely.
It is the site where we reclaim the ground.
It is the place where we reverse the metabolic damage.
It is the location where we restore the ancestral foodway.
It is the home of The Farmacy—where food becomes medicine again, and where the kitchen becomes the clinic it was always meant to be.
*
Ancestral Keto: The Antidote to Colonial Nutrition
At The Farmacy, we practice what I call Ancestral-Keto—a fusion of ancestral Nandi and broader African foodways with the metabolic logic of ketogenic nutrition.
Our Pillars:
This is not a diet. It is a decolonization of the plate.

Food Is Not Fuel. It Is Information.
This is the deeper thesis I’ve come to understand through years of researching nutrition biochemistry, gut microbiology, and metabolic health: food is not merely calories and cofactors. It is biological information.
When you sip a broth of nettles and beets, or fold turmeric into a stew the way it has been done for a hundred generations, you are not just eating. You are receiving a transmission from an unbroken lineage of human observation—the collective clinical trial of our ancestors, run across millennia, with survival itself as the endpoint.
The colonial era taught us to see the kitchen as the place where health is lost and the pharmacy as the place where it is purchased back. The Farmacy restores the original arrangement.

The Nine Pillars of Farmacy Health
Inspired by the Healing Kitchen documentary series, we’ve organized our approach around nine body systems and nine Ancestral Keto interventions:

|---|---|---|
| 🦠 Gut | Fermented foods, bone broths, fiber diversity | Mursik, nduma, managu |
| 🛡️ Immunity | Mineral broths, fire cider, medicinal mushrooms | Nettle-beet broth, turmeric-goat stew |
| 🧠 Brain | Omega-3 fats, choline, polyphenols | Egg yolks, liver, sage |
| ❤️ Heart | Nitrate-rich greens, hawthorn analogs | Nderema, beetroot, hibiscus |
| 🌙 Hormones | Seed cycling, healthy fats, sleep hygiene | Pumpkin seeds, ghee, moon fasting |
| 🌿 Detox | Sulfur veggies, chlorophyll, hydration | Sagaa, cabbage, lemon mornings |
| 🛡️ Cancer Resilience | Brassicas, chlorophyll, low-insulin signaling | Kale, spinach, intermittent keto |
| ✨ Skin/Hair | Collagen, biotin, zinc | Bone broth, eggs, liver |
| 🌙 Sleep/Energy | Magnesium, glycine, circadian eating | Mursik at dusk, early dinner |
Each pillar will be a weekly theme, a downloadable guide, a WhatsApp broadcast, and an in-Farmacy masterclass.

The Launch: From Colonial Food to Ancestral Medicine
Our launch story is a correction—not just of diet, but of history:
“In 1908, the Boers arrived at Wagon Wheel with ox-drawn ploughs and turned the first furrows of wheat and maize.
They changed the landscape of food in the Kenyan highlands.
They made our ancestors abandon their hand hoes and adopt the ox.
They paid laborers in sacks of maize, creating a metabolically confused population.
Today, we reclaim this ground.
We restore the ancestral foodway.
We reverse the metabolic damage.
We turn Wagon Wheel into The Farmacy—where food is medicine again.
Hippocrates may not have said, ‘Let food be thy medicine.’ But he practiced it.
We are not reviving a quote. We are reviving a clinic.
Your kitchen is the oldest pharmacy on Earth.
Your ancestors already knew the prescription.
We are just bringing it back to Eldoret.”
This narrative positions The Farmacy as:

Join Us at The Farmacy
The Farmacy at Wagon Wheel is not a limited-time offer. It is a permanent restoration.
Watch it with the people you cook for. Keep a notebook by the stove. Pick one recipe from each pillar and actually make it—because this knowledge only becomes medicine when it becomes dinner.
Hippocrates’ most famous quote may be apocryphal. His practice was not. The oldest pharmacy on Earth never closed—it just went by another name.
Mine is called The Farmacy-Ancestral-Keto Organic Shop at Wagon Wheel.
And it is open.
